Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
VELVET AI, Inc. ("Velvet", "we", "us") provides the Velvet fashion app and website. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we use it, who receives it, and how you can make a privacy request.
Velvet is intended for people aged 13 or older, or 16 or older in the EU/EEA. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. Contact us if you believe a child has provided it.
2. Information we collect
- Account and profile: Your account identifier, email, sign-in information, name or username, profile photo, bio, location, website and social links you choose to provide, and profile visibility setting. Our authentication provider handles your credentials.
- Fashion and AI content: Selfies and other photos you upload, Digital Double and virtual try-on images, wardrobe items, Looks, chat messages, style preferences, and generated results.
- Community activity: Looks you publish, their chosen audience, follows and follow requests, likes, saves, shares, participation in community features, recognition status and awards, and reports or blocks you submit.
- Purchases: Your Velvet account ID, product and transaction identifiers, purchase history, subscription plan and status, renewal or expiration information, and Look balance and usage records. We do not receive your full payment card number from Apple.
- Support and website: Your name, email, subject, and message if you contact us; referral or invite codes used on the site; device, browser, IP address, app version, diagnostic, and usage data needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.
3. How we use information
We use this information to create and secure accounts; provide fashion search, styling, Digital Double, and virtual try-on features; save and display content according to your sharing choices; run community, recognition, and notification features; fulfill purchases and maintain Look balances; answer support requests; prevent abuse and fraud; and measure and improve performance. We may use information to meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. Photos and AI providers
To process a feature you request, we send the necessary images, text, and related inputs to AI service providers. Depending on the feature and configuration, these may include Replicate, fal.ai, and OpenAI. For example, a Digital Double or try-on request may require your photos, while fashion search in chat may require the image and text you submit. We do not use your photos to train our own AI models or sell them. The app presents a permission step before uploading photos for Digital Double processing; other uploads occur when you choose to use the relevant feature.
We store images and results needed to provide your account and features. Providers may retain processing data for their own limited operational or safety periods. Contact us for deletion of information we control. We do not characterize all photos as biometric identifiers, but photos of a face may be sensitive personal information under some laws.
5. Profiles, publishing, and sharing
Your profile can be public or private. A public profile can be found, followed, viewed, and featured in Velvet; other people may see the profile details, recognition badges, and Looks you make available to them. With a private profile, access to your Looks requires an accepted follow request. Each Look also has an audience setting, such as only you, a selected group, followers, or anyone. Change these settings in the app. Profile details and activity may still be visible where a feature displays them, even when your Looks are restricted.
If you export or share a Look, profile link, or other content outside Velvet, recipients and external services may keep or re-share it independently of your later in-app changes. We use reports and blocks to investigate safety concerns and limit interactions.
6. Purchases and service providers
On iOS, Apple processes in-app payments. We use RevenueCat to show available products, validate purchases, restore subscriptions, and receive purchase and subscription updates. RevenueCat receives your Velvet account ID and purchase information; our servers use those updates to grant or adjust access and Look balances. Apple and RevenueCat handle information under their own privacy policies.
We also use providers for authentication and storage, AI processing, analytics, notifications, website hosting, and support. These providers receive information needed for their services. Your information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States; where required, we use appropriate transfer safeguards.
7. Analytics, cookies, and website contact
We use PostHog to understand feature use, app performance, and website visits. This may include account or device identifiers, events, screen or page views, app version, and session timing. Session replay is disabled in the current mobile app and website. On the website, we use the consent controls shown there before starting optional analytics when those controls are configured. The site may store a referral code in a cookie and local storage for up to 90 days to recognize an invite. You can contact us about your analytics data or a privacy choice.
When you send the website contact form, we use its contents to respond to you. If enabled, Cloudflare Turnstile checks the form for automated abuse and may process technical information such as your IP address.
8. Retention and deletion
We generally keep account, private content, and published content while your account is active or until you remove the content. You can delete your account in the app or contact us to request removal of associated content, including content you shared in Velvet. We may retain records needed for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or dispute purposes. Copies already shared outside Velvet are outside our control. Providers may follow their own retention schedules.
Purchase and transaction records may be kept for the periods required by tax, accounting, and consumer-protection laws. We keep support, security, and analytics records only as long as needed for their purposes, then delete or de-identify them. Contact us for more detail about a particular record or deletion request.
9. Your choices and rights
You can edit your profile, change its visibility and a Look's audience, manage follows or blocks, and delete your account in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction of your personal information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may contact us about analytics or marketing choices. These rights can have legal exceptions.
For EU/EEA and UK users, our legal bases include performance of our contract with you, consent where required, legitimate interests in security and service improvement, and legal obligations. California residents may exercise applicable state privacy rights by contacting us. We do not sell your personal information.
10. Security and changes
We use technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No service is completely secure. We may update this policy and will post the revised effective date here; we will give additional notice when required.
